Week 5 Volcanos This week we talk about volcanos. There are several volcanoes for example shield, cinder cones, and composite fragments. We also learn the different sizes of volcanoes and which are more common to burst and or more active than others (Keller p133). Also volcanic behavior is very important to keep monitor to keep people aware because volcanoes don’t only burst and blast but they release poisonous gasses into the water systems that can affect livestock and people. Volcanoes also have secondary effects like debris flows, mudflows, and volcanic landslides (Keller 149).     Cerro Negro, Nicaragua San Cristobal, Nicaragua Nicaragua’s biggest volcano is San Cristobal which is one of seven active volcanoes. It last erupted in April, 22, 2016 and it erupted more than 10 times. San Cristobal is rated a small to moderate activity. This week we are learning about earthquakes and what causes them. In specific here in California we have one of the greatest faults that is visible and not under ground like most of them. The San Andreas fault is know for reaching from the top of California near Oregon to reaching all the way down south in Mexico. It is part of two plates the North American plate and Pacific plate, it is also one of the few places where you can go and stand on both plates because it is visible through the surface. This fault is called strike slip because it slides past the other, and causes for frequent earthquakes here in California. Nicaragua on the other hand is also know for having many earthquakes as their plates are always moving.   Nicaragua is High in earthquakes their plates are constantly moving. Week 2 is about the different types of boundaries and how close our country is to them. There are three different kinds of boundaries Divergent, Convergent and Transform (Keller 36). Divergent where plates move away from each other. Convergent plates occur when the plates move toward each other. Lastly Transform plates move past each other for example when one plates moves up and the other one moves down.   Nicaragua has Convergent boundaries. The Pacific Plate is sub ducting under the Nicaragua sea plate. Nicaragua is prone to a lot of natural disasters like volcanic activity, hurricanes, severe storms and flooding  due to its location around the Ring of Fire. The ring of fire is an active location where a lot of earthquakes and volcanoes occur because of the plates subduction.
